A recent report from an analyst states that the PlayStation 5 sold twice the number of consoles of the Xbox Series X and S at launch, which is a mighty feat indeed.
According to VGChartz, November 12th saw 1.3 million to 1.6 million consoles sold across the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, and South Korea. Then, on November 19th, the PlayStation 5 sold somewhere between 800,000 and 900,000 units in the rest of the world, with the European countries accounting for 660,000 and 800,000 of this proportion. Altogether, that calculates to a maximum possible total of 2.5 million consoles sold at launch, which is a stunning statistic.
Compared to the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, the PlayStation 5 has actually sold double the number of consoles as its competitor. The two sold an estimated 1.2 million to 1.4 million units worldwide in its first 24 hours, and the Xbox Series X sold twice that of the Xbox Series S. Seeing as the former is the more powerful of the duo, and is in fact the most powerful console in the world, that makes sense. Furthermore, the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S made their debut on the one day, November 10th. So, the reason that the PlayStation 5 outperformed the Xbox Series X is that its data is spread over two launch days.
